According to tommorow's San Francisco Chronicle, Matt Gonzalez holds a slim 50-48 % lead over Gavin Newsom for the election this Tuesday.
Dems are nervous - having already brought in big gun Al Gore, they are seeking the endorsement of Jesse Jackson. They are talking about bringing in the "big dog", Bill Clinton. This, after various party hacks such as Art Torres, have carefully explained what a disaster Gonzalez would be.
My advice to Clinton - don't bother. He didn't help Grey Davis, and he won't help Newsom. People are voting on the candidate, and so far Newsom has proven to be weak. He has tried too hard, for too long , to get this job - from coddling with Mayor Brown, to putting unfunded homeless initiatives on the ballot. He has yet to explain why he's running, and what his passion is. Gonzalez has been pretty clear : he wants to clean city government of the patronage and waste of the Brown years.
